3 On Your Side: Comparison Web Shopping
by Jim Donovan
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
This holiday season, billions of dollars will be spent shopping online. But how do you know which sites are the best to shop from?
3 On Your Side's Jim Donovan has a few suggestions.
If you want to forget the crowds and shop from home, where do you start?
"Well, one thing you should always consider when shopping online, is to shop around. Not one shopping website is going to provide the lowest price every time," said Jeremiah Driansky, Engineer with the Good Housekeeping Institute.
Good Housekeeping recommends well established sites like
shopping.com,
shopzilla.com and
pricegrabber.com.
Now just in time for the holidays there's a new site called
shopwiki.com," Driansky said.
Its "user interface" sets this site apart from others.
First, select a product and use the price slider bar to select your price range. Next, use the color wheel to choose the color you want.
Finally, the user interaction.
"Users are contributing to the content of the website. They provide video reviews for models of products as well as information on buying guides," said Driansky.
While this is helpful, it shouldn't be your end-all solution for purchasing a product.
"Most of the video reviews are about one model of product, which has limited use if you're trying to decide what product to buy," said Driansky.
Good Housekeeping says some of the video reviews on
shopwiki.com are great and objective. Others come from store salespeople, so they're really sales pitches.
But the site does have some very useful buying guides if you're just starting to look for a product but need help narrowing down the choices.
